Group Programs at Briar Bush

Groups of all ages and sizes (schools and day-cares, homeschoolers, Red Hat and garden clubs, etc.) can visit the 12-acre sanctuary for a variety of natural programs. Restrooms and space to have a picnic lunch are available if desired. Recommended ages are noted but most programs can be tailored as needed.

Guided Nature Hike

All ages; up to 60 participants
1 hour: $5/person (Abington); $6/person (non Abington)
1.5 hours: $7/person (Abington); $8/person (non Abington)

Each season brings something new to Briar Bush. Experience the amazing variety of nature during a Winter Search Party, Signs of Spring, Summer Spies, or Fall Frenzy seasonal hike. Our enthusiastic educators can also tailor the lesson to your groups' interest. Topics include but are not limited to: Plants, Birds, Insects, Habitats/Ecosystems, Pond, and Animal Signs.

Live Animal Program

All ages; up to 30 participants

Pet a snake! Touch a turtle! Come visit with the Briar Bush animal collection. Live animals and taxidermy mounts highlight this exciting hands-on experience. Learn what behaviors and adaptations are unique to each species, then touch and see the critters up close. Content and vocabulary will be age-appropriate.

One of our most popular programs, participants have the chance get hands-on with their favorite resident critters AND enjoy a hike along our always-changing trails.

See turtles lined up on a log, insects that can walk on water, and frogs hopping to hide! Using hand nets and magnifying lenses, students will explore the natural wonders of the Briar Bush pond. Inside, students get hands-on with microscopes to view the tiny living organisms that make pond life possible. Content and vocabulary will be age-appropriate.

Cooperative Games

1.5 hours for 3rd-5th graders: at BBNC - $6/child; at your site - $6.50/child
2 hours for Jr. High-adults: at BBNC - $8/participant; at your site (inc. snack) - $10/participant
