Volunteering at Briar Bush is serious fun!

Summer Camp Aides

Summer Camp Aides are very important to our camps – they allow us to offer more hands on activities and field trips, give campers more individualized attention, and make camps run more smoothly overall. In addition, Aides learn naturalist and leadership skills, receive community service hours, and have a great time in the process. As an Aide, you will assist the Briar Bush Educator in setting up projects, clean up, supervising the campers, and chaperoning field trips. Aides are asked to arrive at least 15 minutes early before camp, and stay up to 30 minutes after it ends. You must be able to attend all days of the camp for which you were assigned to assist. If you are unable to attend any days, please contact the Center as soon as possible so that we may make other arrangements.

Requirements

  • You must be entering 7th grade or above. You must be 14 years of age or older to be an Aide for camps for 3rd-6th graders.
  • You should have a desire to work with younger children (age 4 - 6th grade) and domestic animals.
  • You must attend EITHER the Jr. Naturalist Summer Camp OR a 1-day $70 training course on Saturday June 21st.

General Youth Volunteers

Like most nature centers around the country, Briar Bush could not accomplish its goals without the dedicated help of generous volunteers. Youth volunteers are especially important - they assist the staff by handling many jobs that would take too much time for us to accomplish on our own. At the same time, youths have the ability to learn and experience things unique to a small suburban nature center.

Basic requirements for all our volunteers are a love of nature, dependability, and dedication. Youths up to age 18 years of age can volunteer with an adult or on their own, depending on the nature of work being done. Please print a Youth Volunteer Information form, complete it including parent's signature, and send it to:
