Like most non-profit nature centers around the country, Briar Bush could not accomplish its goals without the help of dedicated volunteers. Whether you have a lot of time or very little, we would love to find a way for you to make your mark at Briar Bush.

Friends of Briar Bush Board Member

The Friends of Briar Bush is currently seeking Board of Director candidates with backgrounds in community leadership, business, finance, non-profit management, and education.

If you are interested in a Board of Director position, please email info@briarbush.org with "Board Candidate" in the subject line.

Youth (Ages 13-17)

  • Building/Grounds Maintenance and Bird Club, available all year round

Scouts

Need to complete your Eagle Scout Project or Bronze/Silver/Gold Award? Contact us to see how we may be able to help!

Adults​ (ages 18+)

There are many volunteer opportunities for adults including docents, leading guided hikes, maintaining the facilities and grounds, organizing archives, and more. Some of our most pressing needs are:

  • Leading hikes for school groups

  • Leading information tables during community events

Docent volunteer opportunities are available for weekend museum tours and guided walks.

Families

Families with youth ages 8-12 may volunteer for Buildings/Ground Maintenance and Bird Club.

Animal Care Volunteer Program

Both adults and youth can volunteer for animal care. Youth must be 16+ years of age to volunteer for animal care on their own, or as young as 10 years old to volunteer with an adult family member. This program requires highly responsible, caring, and committed volunteers.

 

Below are a few basic details about our Animal Care Volunteer Program:

  • Each volunteer or volunteer team commits to one 1-3 hour day per week caring for the animal ambassadors of Briar Bush

  • Volunteer duties include: preparing diets, cleaning enclosures, and providing other care for our 20+ captive/domesticated animals 

  • Training provided

  • Previous animal experience not required

  • MUST be comfortable with a wide range of animals including reptiles, small mammals, birds of prey, and insects

  • MUST be willing to make a long term (entire summer+ or 6 months+ if you begin during the school year) commitment

  • Volunteers over 16 years old can work independently, those 10-15 years old must work with an adult

  • Flexible schedule - arrive for 2-hour shift anytime from 9am-5pm weekdays, 10am-4pm weekends

Note: Weekend positions fill quickly and generally have a waiting list. Please consider a weekday time slot if your schedule allows it.
